Cecilia Ballí

Hello and welcome! I’m a writer, journalist and cultural anthropologist. I’ve written for magazines for more than two decades and was an anthropology professor at the University of Texas at Austin. I was a writer-at-large at Texas Monthly for twenty years, and have written for The New York Times Magazine, Harper’s Magazine, and the Columbia Journalism Review, among other publications. I’m currently writing a book about high school mariachis on the Texas border. I’m also a research and communications consultant.

I have a passion for writing about history, identity, race/ethnicity, culture, and the U.S.-Mexico border. You can read my latest story here.
